New Program Helps Your Patients Through Maze of Patient-Assistance Programs
The tough economy is making it harder for more patients to afford their prescriptions these days. Patient Assistance Programs can help uninsured and low-income Americans obtain the medications they need for free or at a fraction of the asking price.
However, navigating the various Patient Assistance Programs can be difficult, both for the patient and his/her provider. The requirements are often confusing, the paperwork burdensome, and the process time consuming.
That is where SIMPLEFILL comes in. Established in 2007, SIMPLEFILL helps uninsured and low-income individuals obtain their prescriptions for free by shepherding them through Patient Assistance Programs. They manage the paperwork, physician signatures and keep up with all the refill requirements. You can look at them as an in-house prescription assistance aid worker for your patients.
How It Works
To be eligible, individuals or families can earn no more than 200 percent of the poverty level, or $21,660 for a household of one and $44,100 for a family of four.
SIMPLEFILL has assembled a database of all requirements, forms and 1,300 prescription drugs covered by the various Patient Assistance Programs. An individual in need of free or low-cost prescriptions would contact SIMPLEFILL via an online enrollment form or by phone at (877) 420-6496.
Eligible applicants are assigned a personal advocate who then works with them to obtain, complete and submit any required paperwork for the appropriate program. Personal advocates work directly with the patient, physician and pharmaceutical company to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
Once in the SIMPLEFILL system, an applicant will work with the personal advocate to monitor refills, update prescriptions and even add new medications when necessary.
There is a $65 monthly fee, payable when SIMPLEFILL is able to obtain medications for an applicant. Otherwise, there is no fee to join and no required time that the patient needs to be on the program.
Benefit to Providers and Patients
If a patient is currently paying more than $65 per month on prescriptions, or is taking more than one prescription from several manufacturers, SIMPLEFILL can help streamline and speed up the process for gaining free medications through Patient Assistance Programs. Additionally, SIMPLEFILL handles all paperwork related to an applicant’s Patient Assistance Program, relieving clinical or administrative staff of this burden.
